For the past five years, I have been working to complete two books: Are You Ready for the Future of Work and Never Again She, She Said. I wrote Are You Ready manuscript in the fall of 2015. Never Again was started in the fall of 2016.
My goal for Are You Ready was to produce a book that provided realistic insight into how much predictive analytics and artificial intelligence would impact employment. The second part of the book examined the parallel trends between the Gilded Age (the 1870s and 1920s) and now.
Several publishing advisors in January 2016 thought the book was too early for the market. I disagree, and the manuscript was shelved. In 2017 and 2018 disruption and digital transformation books flooded the market.
To save my work and research from Are You Ready manuscript, I included three chapters in my third book, How Dyslexics Will Rule the Future. The book discusses the impact of advanced technologies and how automation will replace many of the jobs and tasks humans perform. What jobs remain will require creative cognitive individuals who problem-solve using human ingenuity.
In August 2019, my son and I drove from Dallas, Texas to Watsonville California. The experience was life-changing and provided a fresh perspective.
Today, Wednesday, September 11, 2019, I withdrew Are You Ready for the Future of Work from the publisher for many reasons. I am thankful my team understands and we are discussing the possibility of developing a book from my road trip to California.
I learned more about who I am writing Are You Ready and believe the book was a personal journey and the manuscript was not meant for publication.
